Twaction 2.0 - I Feel It Should Be Open

In December I launched a site called Twaction. In short, it’s a site that turns tweets from Twitter into actions. I am really grateful for the coverage it has received and I owe a lot to those who shared ideas and were part of the process.
Twaction might be a silly application, however I feel it has a lot of potential. Not in terms of revolutionary, but a little innovative around the Twitter API. In order for the site to achieve that potential I feel the site needs to become more open in two areas:
The Users
Twaction needs to be focused around its users’ needs and in order to achieve that I want to open up Twaction to the users. So there will be a few changes to the interface and the general workings of Twaction as time goes on. The first of the changes will be:
- Actions: Users will be able to add, edit and remove actions. This will greatly expand upon the amount of actions available to users and will also allow for custom actions.
- Privacy: Through direct messages users will be able to perform private actions that will only be visible to them and the recipient. Users will also have the option to set their actions to hidden or visible to all and the same goes for their profile page.
Development
Twaction is written in PHP and uses MySQL as a database server. I have created a document on Google Docs with all proposed changes and features to implemented. Those who are interested in helping me develop Twaction, please contact me and I will share the document with you.
- Open Development: I will open up the source code to anyone who is willing to participate in the development process of Twaction. All modified source code will be tested before going live, this is to ensure there are no bugs or security risks.
- API: There will be an API available to developers who would like to expand upon Twaction and make use of its data. Not all data will be shared as we need to respect privacy, but it will be available to those who wish to use the API.
I am really excited about the new plans for Twaction and I hope the community is just as excited and supportive. I would really like to hear from you guys and girls, all suggestions and criticism is welcome. I want to be a part of something that is build by the users for the users.
